What is an HR Licence?
A Heavy Rigid (HR) truck licence is an Australian classification required for rigid trucks with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) exceeding 8 tonnes and three or more axles. It also covers any towed trailer up to 9 tonnes GVM and articulated buses. To qualify for an HR licence, drivers must hold a standard car licence for at least two years — ensuring the skills and experience needed for safe heavy vehicle operation.
